I spent 1 week drawing Istanbul in the middle of February. It was cold, but very beautiful. I stayed in the neighborhood near Aya Sofia, and walked everywhere, took the ferries across the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus. I ate sunflower seeds like the locals on the waterfront, drawing scenes at the markets, eating Lokum and kebab every day, and many many teas and coffees. I was enthralled with the ancient Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman histories overlapped on each other, the layers of time visible to all.
